The Metabo brand has a long tradition. In 1923, founder Alfred Schnizler built his first hand-held drill in Nürtingen under the simple name “No. 18”. This drill made waves and sold more than 50,000 units. A year later, Alfred Schnizler and his friend Julius Closs founded Schnizler GmbH. The name Metabo is derived from the term “Metallbohrdreher” (metal drill). In 1934, Metabo introduced its first electric hand drill, the revolutionary “No. 750” with 120 watts, 6.5 mm drilling capacity and 1200 rpm. Many further innovations followed, leading to the manufacturer’s great success. In 2012, the Nürtingen-based company launched the world’s first 4.0 Ah battery with Ultra M technology, opening up new dimensions for cordless power tools. This new technology increased battery runtime by 33% per charge.

Today, the company employs over 1,800 people worldwide, most of whom still work in Nürtingen. One of Metabo’s two production sites is located there.
