Tire Change – The Tools You Need!
For most drivers, changing tires is a biannual task. This involves switching from winter tires to summer tires and back from summer tires to winter tires.
A good rule of thumb for tire changing is to remember "from O to O." This means you should put on your winter tires in October and your summer tires at Easter.
If you change the tires yourself, you can save quite a bit of money over time. However, you first need to invest in the right tools. The necessary tools for a tire change include an appropriate torque wrench, a car jack, and the right accessories.
Impact Wrench
If you are a real DIY enthusiast, an impact wrench should not be missing from your toolkit. If you plan to work on your car regularly, an impact wrench is a very good investment. However, an impact wrench is not absolutely necessary. A torque wrench or lug wrench is completely sufficient.
Lug Wrench
A lug wrench is something you can always have in your car. If you ever have a flat tire, you'll be grateful to have a lug wrench with you to change your tires.
If you want to be on the safe side, you should get a torque wrench, as it allows you to apply a precise torque to the wheel nuts.
Torque Wrench
A torque wrench is a tool used to apply a specific torque to a bolt or nut. Most wheels require a torque between 80 to 200 Nm. However, be sure to check your owner's manual for the required torque, as it may differ from the norm in some cases.
Additionally, you will need a set of sockets for the tire change.
Car Jack
With a car jack, you can perform many different tasks – including a perfect tire change.
Wire Brush
A wire brush is a must-have in any workshop. It is ideal for removing dirt from wheel nuts or brakes.
Chalk
With chalk, you can perfectly label your tires so you know exactly where each tire belongs next time. For example, write FL for front left or RR for rear right.
