Retrofitting Burglary Protection
There are various ways unwanted visitors can enter our living space. For all possibilities, there is suitable burglary protection for retrofitting.
Wintertime is often referred to as the dark season. Festive and thus dimmed lighting cheers us up, especially at Christmas. However, the fact that it gets dark early increasingly calls burglars to action. The BKA informs on its website that significantly higher numbers of cases are recorded in the winter half-year.
How do we protect ourselves from burglaries?
First, it must be clearly stated: "Where there's a will, there's a way." With enough time and the right tools, burglars can enter any room, even a bank vault. But what about the two main factors in a burglary?
Time: These uninvited guests do not like to be in the spotlight and try to quickly get inside the apartment. They aim to create as little noise and attention as possible. Typically, a burglary does not last longer than 5 minutes. If we don't even lock our door with a key, we might as well invite the burglars in for coffee and cake.
Tools: With the right tools, burglars reach their target faster: our living spaces. Tools typically include crowbars and screwdrivers. With appropriate protective measures, we prevent burglars from quickly reaching their target.
We can therefore conclude that we can try to make our apartment temporally uninteresting for burglars.
What protective measures are there?
We basically distinguish between two types of burglary protection: electronic and mechanical burglary protection.
Mechanical Burglary Protection
With mechanical burglary protection for retrofitting, we set up barriers against burglars that prevent them from easily entering our apartment. This protection mainly includes the window and door area.
By using a security bar, for example, we can reinforce doors that are not visible from the street.
Windows that are also hard to see can be secured with an additional window lock.
Electronic Burglary Protection
With electronic burglary protection, we receive feedback from a system that a burglary is currently happening. In addition to the classic camera, these are mainly sensors. They detect an irregularity and primarily inform. This reduces the time until the police or owner arrives. The burglar has less time for their unannounced visit.
These tools help less against burglary tools and are more intended to inform us.
Although radio-controlled window drives are assigned to the mechanical area, they also bring electronic properties into play, making them a good combination.
